{"id":844,"date":"2022-07-27T08:00:21","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T12:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diagnostyka-umyslu.pl\/blog\/?p=844"},"modified":"2022-07-28T07:53:43","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T11:53:43","slug":"principles-for-working-with-a-dyslexic-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mind-test.org\/blog\/dyslexia\/principles-for-working-with-a-dyslexic-child\/","title":{"rendered":"Principles for working with a dyslexic child"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Therapy, schooling and self-study work undertaken by the child should follow the following principles:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>slow pace, variation of work rhythm, increased fatigue of the child should be taken into account,<\/li>\n<li>it is necessary to divide the child&#8217;s material to be learnt into small portions, extend the time for performing tasks, use an increased number of exercises, repetitions,<\/li>\n<li>do not overload the child with reading and writing (<em>take short breaks or change the type of activity frequently<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>use multiple sensory channels (<em>involve all the senses<\/em>) and use association techniques to facilitate memorisation,<\/li>\n<li>children&#8217;s strengths need to be highlighted and built on,<\/li>\n<li>the child&#8217;s contribution should be recognised and rewarded, regardless of the results achieved,<\/li>\n<li>the child&#8217;s smallest progress should be highlighted and appreciated,<\/li>\n<li>do not punish the child for failure, lack of or insufficient results in work,<\/li>\n<li>give the child short, simple instructions and make sure he\/she understands them,<\/li>\n<li>create a suitable environment for the child to work in (<em>comfortable, quiet, well lit, well equipped place<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>develop a suitable work schedule with the child (<em>fixed time, place for learning<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>help the child, monitor the effects of the work,<\/li>\n<li>do not help the child to find and correct mistakes,<\/li>\n<li>the child should be taught the habit of self-correction and constant use of a spelling dictionary,<\/li>\n<li>do not lower the marks for typical dyslexic mistakes in reading and writing,<\/li>\n<li>the child should not be required to write on the board or read aloud in the forum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For dyslexic students, the following facilitation may also be beneficial:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>listening to reading (<em>audio books<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>writing on the computer (<em>easier to read, correct, complete notes<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>using a dictaphone to record what they have said in order to transcribe it by ear (<em>essays<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>using a dictaphone to record activities in order to complete notes which the child has not had time to write down,<\/li>\n<li>writing in capitals (<em>makes the work easier to read<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>replacing the notebook with a workbook (<em>can be removed, added to, rearranged, making it easier to revise and complete notes<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>notebooks with enlarged lines (<em>makes writing easier<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>pointer reading (<em>marking the word that is being read<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Sources:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>M.
