{"id":838,"date":"2022-07-27T08:00:55","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T12:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diagnostyka-umyslu.pl\/blog\/?p=838"},"modified":"2022-07-28T10:02:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T14:02:19","slug":"symptoms-of-dyslexia-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mind-test.org\/blog\/dyslexia\/symptoms-of-dyslexia-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Symptoms of dyslexia"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>In terms of reading, symptoms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mind-test.org\/dyslexia-test\">dyslexia<\/a> can be:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>difficulties dividing words into syllables, joining syllables into a word,<\/li>\n<li>twisting words,<\/li>\n<li>reading short words backwards,<\/li>\n<li>skipping, adding words,<\/li>\n<li>skipping or re-reading lines of text,<\/li>\n<li>losing sight of where one is reading,<\/li>\n<li>omitting punctuation,<\/li>\n<li>incorrect intonation of the text being read,<\/li>\n<li>slow, non-fluent, nonrhythmic reading,<\/li>\n<li>low level of comprehension of the text read or listened to,<\/li>\n<li>difficulty in finding the main ideas in a text,<\/li>\n<li>problems remembering the information contained in the text read or listened to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>In the area of writing, dyslexia can be indicated by:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>abnormal grip of writing instruments,<\/li>\n<li>abnormal muscle tone in the hand, wrist,<\/li>\n<li>slow writing speed,<\/li>\n<li>too large, too small connections between letters, numbers,<\/li>\n<li>lack of linking of letters with each other,<\/li>\n<li>omission of diacritical marks (full stop, hook) above and below letters,<\/li>\n<li>deformation of the shape of letters, figures,<\/li>\n<li>illegible writing,<\/li>\n<li>dropping, adding, rearranging (inversions) the order of letters in a word,<\/li>\n<li>confusion, mirroring and reversal of similar-looking letters, figures,<\/li>\n<li>writing words from right to left,<\/li>\n<li>mirroring writing,<\/li>\n<li>incorrect choice of letters for phonetically similar sounds,<\/li>\n<li>writing according to pronunciation rather than spelling,<\/li>\n<li>inappropriate use of lower and upper case letters,<\/li>\n<li>adding, omitting, rearranging the order of words in a sentence,<\/li>\n<li>leaving out word endings,<\/li>\n<li>writing words in different ways in the same work,<\/li>\n<li>missing or inappropriate use of punctuation,<\/li>\n<li>incorrect positioning of text in space, problem with keeping margins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>In relation to drawing and doing other artwork, dyslexia may be indicated by:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>rapid, high hand fatigue,<\/li>\n<li>low precision of hand movements, fingers,<\/li>\n<li>poor eye-hand coordination,<\/li>\n<li>simplified, schematic drawings, omitting details,<\/li>\n<li>distorted proportions of elements in the artwork,<\/li>\n<li>inappropriate arrangement, disturbed composition of artistic works,<\/li>\n<li>incorrect direction when drawing and reproducing figures, patterns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>In terms of motor skills, dyslexia may be indicated by:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>delayed or atypical motor development,<\/li>\n<li>low dexterity and co-ordination of fine and gross motor skills,<\/li>\n<li>general clumsiness of movement,<\/li>\n<li>difficulties with complex, sequential motor activities &#8211; e.g. gymnastics routines, dance steps (dyspraxia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>In relation to memory, symptoms of dyslexia can be:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>difficulties in remembering rhymes, songs, names, dates, terminology, telephone numbers, addresses, numbers, multiplication tables,<\/li>\n<li>difficulty in remembering longer, complex instructions,<\/li>\n<li>difficulty recalling familiar words,<\/li>\n<li>difficulty remembering new words,<\/li>\n<li>losing the thread when writing essays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>In terms of speech and verbal communication, dyslexia can be indicated by:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>delayed speech development,<\/li>\n<li>confusion of similar sounding sounds, syllables, words,<\/li>\n<li>twisting, changing the sound of difficult, long words,<\/li>\n<li>problems with the correct pronunciation of newly learned words,<\/li>\n<li>grammatical errors (agrammatisms),<\/li>\n<li>limited active vocabulary,<\/li>\n<li>difficulty in building longer, complex statements,<\/li>\n<li>impaired understanding of speech in noise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Sources:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>M.
