Integrative dyslexia is a type of dyslexia in which coordination is impaired, i.e. there are disorders of perceptual-motor integration.
Integrative dyslexia is diagnosed when the development of perceptual functions tested in isolation is age-appropriate, but the process of integrating stimuli coming in through the different senses is disturbed.
The term ‘dyslexia’ was formed from two Greek words – the morpheme ‘dys’ meaning difficulty, inability or lack of something, and the word ‘lexicos’, whose meaning refers to words. We can distinguish between several varieties of dyslexia, and individual dyslexic disorders can occur together or separately.
Dyslexic difficulties are rooted in dysfunctions of the analysers or in their level of integration. These include:
- dyslexia of the visual type
- auditory dyslexia
- integrative dyslexia
