Developmental dyslexia – specific difficulties in reading and writing in children. It is a syndrome of impairment in learning to read (dyslexia) and mastering correct spelling (dysorthography), often accompanied by poor graphic writing (dysgraphia).
The term: developmental means that these difficulties occur at a developmental age, i.e. in childhood, from the very beginning of learning to read and write. Dyslexia is not due to visual or hearing impairments or to environmental or didactic neglect. It is only diagnosed in cases of intellectual normality.
