Anartria – lack of speech development or loss of previously acquired speech sound production skills due to damage to the extrapyramidal system, brainstem centres and pathways innervating the speech organs; often progresses to dysarthria (a speech disorder characterised by disorders of sound articulation due to damage to the centres and pathways innervating the speech organs (articulation, phonation, respiration).
