Adaptation of requirements – as opposed to reduction of requirements – is the application of criteria for enforcing knowledge and skills that take into account the child’s abilities and limitations, i.e. dysfunctions and strengths of development and functioning. In practice it comes down to lowering the requirements in certain areas, e.g. spelling (the grade is not lowered significantly if in other aspects the written work is well prepared), while in other areas the requirements should be increased. This applies, for example, to knowledge of spelling rules, daily work on one’s problem, documented in a separate notebook.
