How is autism diagnosed?
Autism, a disorder of the nervous system, is usually diagnosed before a child is four years old. But the signals of this disorder can already appear earlier. Parents should pay attention to certain warning signs. Which ones? If an infant does not chatter or smile back, it is worth telling the doctor. In slightly older children in particular, the development of speech and social skills should be observed. If the toddler has a disorder, it is important to consult the paediatrician, who may refer the child for further diagnosis.
Symptoms of autism include:
- lack of eye contact,
- sensitivity to stimuli,
- lack of reaction to one’s own name,
- difficulty in following social rules,
- problems with the construction of speech,
- aggressive behaviour.
