ADHD has been called the ‘scourge of the 21st century‘. The problem occurs worldwide. Its prevalence in the paediatric population is estimated at 3-5% and in adults at 1.4-3.6%. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder more commonly affects boys. In girls, the ADHD subtype with predominantly attention deficit disorder is more common.
