In the process to diagnose ADHD, comorbid disorders are also diagnosed. In the case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, the presence of comorbid disorders is not an uncommon problem. More than half of children and adolescents with ADHD are diagnosed with one additional psychiatric disorder, and one in four patients is diagnosed with at least two concomitant psychiatric disorders. Co-occurring problems with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder include:
- autism spectrum disorder;
- tic disorders;
- specific disorders of school skills development;
- motor coordination disorders;
- behavioural disorders;
- antisocial personality;
- mood disorders;
- anxiety disorders;
- sleep disorders.
